this is a big reason why we are fairly draconian with screentime with our 9 year old. I just got so sick of dinnertime being miserable every night b/c he was furious about having to stop the thing he was enjoying doing to do something stupid and awful (eat dinner I had made.) Nowadays if he earns screentime on weekends it's TV shows only which somehow are easier to separate from than a device in his hands.
Thanks for this! We started noticing this with our boys a few months ago and have done some of what you suggested, but will start implementing more regularly.
I don’t believe that screens are all bad, but I do recognize that these apps were designed by some of the most sophisticated experts in the world to be addictive. That’s necessary to acknowledge if we are going to implement strategies. Otherwise we will end up blaming ourselves as parents for this setup.
Makes sense. My son always says, now, what can I do? There are a lot of lists online that answer that kind of question: what else can I do? It can be fun to look at suggestions and it makes for a little transition
