Weekly thread: The "old" movies you've watched with your kids
Bringing back the '80s, two-hour chunks at a time
I’m always looking for fun suggestions for family movies. During the pandemic, we tested a bunch of our childhood favorites on the kids, some of which were hits (Back to the Future, ET) and some of which were flops (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids). What have you loved watching with your kids, and how old were they when you watched them together?
These could include movies from your childhood and, like, reaaaaallllly old movies. Also, if you have any warnings — films you watched with your kids that made you cringe — share that, too. I felt that way about Adventures in Babysitting, which includes a lot of misogynistic teen behavior (including a scene in which teen boys sexually assault a sleeping girl). That said, movies like this can also be valuable opportunities for discussion — I talked to my kids about the boys’ behavior and choices during and after the movie, which I think was actually quite constructive.
Anyway - please share your ideas and experiences in the comments!

My kids also disliked “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”! Recently watched the original “Jurassic Park” with my eleven year old and she loved it. We’ve tried “The Goonies”, but they weren’t into it. Hard to predict what still lands and what just seems silly in the 2020s.
