Hi everyone,
This is just a quick post to tell you that I have an excellent newsletter in the works for you that was supposed to go up this morning, but I’m running a bit late. I work from home, and my home is on top of a mountain in a rural area, so my productivity is often at the whim of the power and Internet gods. Last night we had a storm and our Internet went out, and as of right now Optimum’s restoration time is listed as “assessing condition,” which does not sound good. Because of this, I lost a lot of work time last night and this morning that I was hoping to dedicate to the newsletter.
I also am having one of those crazy crunch weeks as a freelancer. Although I love working for myself, there are times when all the various editors I work with pop out of the woodwork at the same time, urgently asking for things. Over the past week I’ve gotten fact check notes back for a feature I’m finishing up for Scientific American, edit notes back for a feature I’m writing for Nature, and edit notes back for a story I’m writing for The New York Times. Revisions are all due this week (if not, ideally, today). I also got a quick turnaround assignment for the Times yesterday that’s due today, and I need to finish up a yet another story I’ve been reporting for the Times over the past few weeks. So, yeah, I’m kind of drowning. In a sea without Internet. (I’m now at a local coffee shop with Internet, though. Thank god for those.)
Anyway – thank you for letting me rant, and rest assured that I’m going to do my best to get this newsletter out to you over the next 48 hours. So STAY TUNED! And thank you for your patience!
